Books that Describe My Bookish Taste
Becoming an avid reader, being able to identify the types of books you gravitate to makes the search for your next read easier. Once you’re able to discover your favorite authors, genres, character arcs, or tropes, you’ll breeze through the bookstore like a seasoned bookseller.
My personal taste is an ode to “Intro to Eclecticism”, I have touched a few books to know that there’s something for me in just about genre. As I narrow it down to as niche as possible, they all speak to Black womanhood.
Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall
A non-fiction title that speaks openly about intersectional feminism.
Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whithead
Have I mentioned how much I love historical fiction? Colson Whitehead is an auto-buy author for me and he is incredible at bringing fact and fiction together.
Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers
If it’s going to be romance, make it sapphic! Plain and simple.
Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley
Leila speaks poetically throughout this entire story and it couldn’t have shed light on true events in a more sensual way.
Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband? by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn
This is contemporary literature at its finest. It always feels reassuring to read about other Black women navigating life.
