February Book Releases By Black Authors You Need

If you didn’t know, January released a hot track list of books written by Black Authors that are easily rolling over into February. ‘Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband?’ by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn, was published on January 18, 2022, but it’s kicking off my February hopefuls with hilarious commentary and an intense look into Black women friendships.

That aside, there are a few books releasing in February that are going to send me flying to the bookstore on pub days. If you haven’t had your eyes on these titles, give them a chance so you can walk out of Black History Month in love with a Black author or two!


Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson (February 1, 2022)

Two estranged siblings must set aside their differences to deal with their mother’s death and her hidden past—a journey of discovery that takes them from the Caribbean to London to California and ends with her famous black cake.

Don’t Cry For Me by Daniel Black (February 1, 2022)

A Black father makes amends with his gay son through letters written on his deathbed in this wise and penetrating novel of empathy and forgiveness, for fans of Ta-Nehisi Coates, Robert Jones Jr. and Alice Walker.

Nobody’s Magic by Destiny O. Birdsong (February 8, 2022)

In this glittering triptych novel, Suzette, Maple and Agnes, three Black women with albinism, call Shreveport, Louisiana home. At the bustling crossroads of the American South and Southwest, these three women find themselves at the crossroads of their own lives.

The Pussy Detective by DuVay Knox (February 8, 2022)

An Occult, Erotic Mystery bout Reverend Daddy Hoodoo helping his Wommin find their Lost-R-Missing Pussies with the help of the extraordinary Madam X. Featuring heartless gangsters, Vodoo sex Magick, and a young Wommin in distress by the name of Abysinnia who is in desperate need of the services of Daddy Hoodoo.

Carolina Built by Destiny O. Birdsong (February 22, 2022)

A vivid and moving novel based on the incredible life of real estate magnate Josephine N. Leary—a previously untold story of passion, perseverance, and building a legacy after emancipation in North Carolina.
